The Gamin have left Earth, and in doing so have raised many questions. Clearly we are not alone in the universe. As the alien visitor’s ships have revealed, space is not a peaceful place. The discovery of a massive construction dock in the Australian Outback surprises all. The partially built spacecraft within its confines is a baffling mystery to many, a technological marvel to others. A consortium of countries pool their resources in their attempt to complete the ‘Terran’. Will the massive vessel even be able to launch? If so, will the crew begin their journey to the stars? Or will that be denied to them by the orbiting satellite grid the Gamin left behind?
Cindy commands an assortment of people from all over the world. Her skills are put to the test over and over again as the crew endures one harrowing event after another. With their very lives hanging in the balance she is forced to make decisions that have far reaching consequences.
George, once again, finds himself embroiled in events beyond his control as fate and destiny collide. Lisa and Johnny can only wait as he is propelled toward his ultimate destiny. Commander John Thompson looks forward to flying the massive spacecraft with trepidation. Arguably the best space shuttle pilot in the world, his capabilities are pushed to their limits, and beyond. The Australian astronomers, Joe and Andrew, find themselves trying to comprehend the alien technology. They are tasked with navigating the alien spacecraft, assuming it can get off the ground and into space. Radclyf and Hayato find themselves, and their respective combat teams, experiencing the adventure of a lifetime as foes old and new challenge them. The brave Russian Olaf and his secretive countryman Peter, complete the main crew as the story continues.
Discovery introduces a few new characters, while at the same time, bids farewell to others. Fate and fortune twist and weave its way as the crew experience events beyond their wildest dreams. The adventure that began in ‘First Contact’ continues, each person’s fate begins to be revealed.

Gave the first book four stars and this one the same. I can fault the science, the cliff hanger element so prevalent, the questionable characters and their improbable roles, the terrorist plots and on and on but it is a popcorn book. Just like many action movies. Fun to read or fun to watch. Like the first one my diligent side ignores my own version of the flaws and I sit back and read and enjoy. It is a fun book. No heavy lifting. I hope Jackson keeps it going but just don't milk it like Turtledove. And buy the short stories. Nice spin off material. One of the better self published series I've read.

Discovery Terran Chronicles Book 2 eBook James Jackson Reviews

I liked the first book. I liked the second book, that is, untill...
One of the things I want from the authors whos book I purchase is consistancy. I was all enjoying the series until their first starship takes off unexpectantly in an act of sabatage. the people and the engineers onboard the ship all wax poetic about their not being enough power to get into orbit, about their not being enough propulsion devices to get them into orbit even if they had the power.
Yet they get into orbit, land on several planets, get back into orbit again, and go to warp to another star system.
I like a little technobabble and I'll even give the author points for coming up with the magic space drive, but I can't really suport an author who says something is impossible and then does it anyway without any expanation at all just to keep the story going even when the characters themselves don't know why.
It bothered me thoughout the book that the characters kep mentioning that they didn't have enough power, and yet they kept going and doing all these things anyway. When did they stop for fuel? Did they get any fuel at all? I mean, you don't say your car is low on fuel and then go a thousand miles to your next destination without even stopping for gas or at least mentioning doing something about it.
Very good. One of the best sci-fi books I have read. Couldn't put the book down, and look forward to the next book.
An excellent sequel to First Contact. One of the better Sci-Fi books I've read.
So awesome. Just when you think they're out if the water...cue the jaws music...love the touches of humor and the emotions the author evokes with this second story. He definitely has me hooked for the remainder of the series!
OK here it goes. For an event so important to humanity as sending its first ship outside the solar system, it is amateur hour from the first. The theme might be Oh lets try this or that. Not a very professional approach to anything.
I have never been a sci-fi reader, it never interested me in the least, I bought Mr. Jackson's books on a friend's recommendation, and not only did I greatly enjoy them, I have been having a blast with all of the new books showing up in my 's "You might like" recommendations.

It's always nice to find something new, to branch out a bit. Glad I took the leap, and found this whole new world of reading.
